Wireless Network Topology Emulator (WNTE)
What is WNTE?
WNTE is a software tool that helps testing or demonstrating wireless multi-hop
networks that consist of Linux-based nodes. WNTE emulates a
multi-hop topology by configuring the nodes that are in fact in transmission range of each other with IPtables MAC-filter rules. Thus, packets received from certain neighbors are not given
to the network layer, but are discarded instead. The topology to be emulated
can be set and visualized with a Qt-based GUI (see figure below). To apply
the topology, WNTE configures the MAC-filter rules of all nodes via a
secure shell login.
WNTE was developed within the project IPonAir by members of the Intitut für
Telematik, Universität
Karlsruhe (TH), Germany.
